Tempe, Arizona - Tempe residents can protect themselves from identity theft and help the environment by participating in the America Recycles Day Green Challenge on Saturday, Nov. 15.
This free recycling event will feature four stations designed to help keep personal documents, electronics, athletic shoes and plastic bags out of landfills. Items suitable for recycling can be brought to the event at 2250 W. Broadway Rd., Suite 104, in Mesa, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each participant will receive a free Tempe reusable shopping bag.
Featured recycling opportunities at the event include:
Shred-a-Thon: Participants are invited to bring their confidential documents to be securely shredded and eliminate the potential for identity theft. Residents will have the opportunity to watch as their documents are shredded.
E-Waste: Participants can recycle their technology equipment, such as computers, cell phones and monitors in a safe and secure manner.
Televisions will not be accepted. For additional information of what can be recycled, call Green Tech Assets at 480-964-3031.
Nike Reuse-a-Shoe Program: Any brand of used athletic shoes will be collected and recycled. The material from these recycled shoes will go toward resurfacing sports courts. Laces and eyelets should be removed from shoes if possible.
Bag Central Station: Participants can drop off plastic shopping bags for recycling.
America Recycles Day is a national event that encourages everyone to conserve natural resources and make a difference by recycling. In April,
6.5 tons of paper was recycled at the Shred-A-Thon.
The event is held in partnership with Premier Document Shredding, Green Tech Assets and NIKE. For more information, call 480-350-8145
